About me

Since 2021 I have focused exclusively on working on energy transitions, industrial decarbonisation, and community-led planning. My doctorate (2024) examined the role of public participation and design in sustainability transitions. Previously I was a principal at Meld Studios, one of Australia’s leading service design agencies.

I have recently worked as a freelance energy transition specialist and academic researcher on several paid and volunteer projects. This includes working with The Next Economy on two energy transition projects, writing a chapter for a book on regional energy transitions, assisting to organise and document a seminar for social scientists working in the Hunter Valley, and sharing my expertise to renewable energy professionals through the Energy Charter Social Licence Community of Practice.

I am currently working as an academic research (through Deakin) on a project with Dr Chantel Carr looking at community-led planning for industrial futures.

Kimberley’s exceptional research and analysis skills, combined with her talent for creating impactful and beautiful designs, significantly elevated our work. Her genuine commitment to our project’s goals and enthusiastic support made collaborating with her both easy and delightful. Kimberley’s contributions were invaluable, and her dedication truly set her apart.

Dan Coleman, Hunter Renewal

Kimberley brings high level skills in directly engaging communities on their transition needs, and translating that engagement to practical research outputs and transition planning. Really valuable contributions on the ground in the Hunter Region.
